Day 1
Moscow — Sergiev Posad
Meeting with the guide in your hotel. Transfer to Tver. Lunch. Sightseeing tour of Tver. We will walk along the embankment of Stepan Razin located on the right bank of the Volga river, then cross to its left bank and visit the Assumption of the Mother of God Cathedral which is the only building remained from the former 14th century Otroch Monastery. Nearby you can take pictures of the monument to Tver’s famous medieval traveler, writer and merchant Afanasy Nikitin. Later we will admire the outer decorations of the 16th century Church of the White Trinity and shoot photos of the Travel Palace of the Imperial family exteriors. Transfer to Sergiev Posad. Accommodation in the hotel in Sergiev Posad. Dinner. Overnight in the hotel.
Day 2
Sergiev Posad — Rostov the Great
Breakfast. Excursion to the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius. The architectural ensemble of the 14th century Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius is unique. In the convent's center mounts the 15th century Trinity Cathedral build from white stone and keeping the miracle-working relic of St. Sergius of Radonezh. This is the most sacred object of the Lavra. The cathedral’s iconostasis was made by the great Russian icon painters Andrei Rublev and Daniel Chorny. The unique masterpiece of Old Russian icon-painting and most famous Rublev’s work «Holy Trinity» is now kept in the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. Transfer to Pereslavl Zalessky. Lunch. Sightseeing tour of Pereslavl Zalessky. The excursion begins on the Red Square of Pereslavl Zalessky with the Transfiguration Cathedral in its center. The temple was founded in the year 1157 by prince Yury Dolgoruky during whose long reign Moscow was for the first time mentioned. This elegant church is one of the oldest white-stone architectural landmarks of North-Eastern Russia. Transfer to Rostov the Great. Excursion in the Rostov Kremlin. We will explore two of four Kremlin’s architectural ensembles: the Metropolitan's Court and the Cathedral Court and then walk to the scenic Nero Lake. Accommodation in the hotel in Rostov. Dinner. Day 3
Rostov the Great — Kostroma
Breakfast. Transfer to Yaroslavl. Sightseeing tour of Yaroslavl. We will walk on the territory of the ancient Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior which was founded yet in the 12th century, visit the 16th century Transfiguration Cathedral with beautiful frescos inside, and admire the confluence of the rivers Volga and Kotorosl. Then we will take photos near the monument to the 1000th anniversary of Yaroslavl, visit the Assumption of the Mother of God Cathedral and admire the exterior decorations of the Church of Elijah the Prophet which is a masterpiece of Old Russian architecture and painting. This ancient city is full of charm, and its center is included in the UNESCO List of World Heritage Sites. Lunch. Transfer to Kostroma. Sightseeing tour of Kostroma. Walking along the historical center of Kostroma you will admire the restored original appearance of the Trading Rows and the Fire Tower which are outstanding architectural landmarks of the late 18th century Classicism style. We will also visit the 16th century Theophany Convent keeping the venerated Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God. This 13th century masterpiece of the Old Russian painting was the patron icon of the Romanov royal family. Accommodation in the hotel in Kostroma. Dinner. Overnight in the hotel.
Day 4
Kostroma — Vladimir
Breakfast. Transfer to Suzdal. Lunch. Sightseeing tour of Suzdal. The whole city is the unique open-air museum. We will see the architectural ensemble of the white-stone Suzdal Kremlin, walk on the territory of the Convent of Intercession (Pokrovsky Monastery) and then visit the Museum of Wooden Architecture. The artifacts of this interactive museum represent peasant’s everyday life of 17th - 19th centuries. Transfer to Vladimir. Sightseeing tour of Vladimir. We will see the 12th century white stone temples of Vladimir which are included in UNESCO List of World Heritage Sites. These are the Dormition Cathedral with unique frescos of Andrei Rublev and the Cathedral of St. Demetrius with exteriors decorated by unique stone carving. We will also see the famous Golden Gate of Vladimir. This architectural landmark of medieval military defense once guarded the front entrance to the city. In the end of the excursion we will walk along the pedestrian St. George Street. Accommodation in the hotel in Vladimir. Dinner. Overnight in the hotel.
Day 5
Kostroma — Moscow
Breakfast. Transfer to Bogolyubovo settlement located some 10 kilometers northwest of Vladimir. Excursion to the Monastery of Our Lady of Bogolyubovo. This nunnery occupies the former residence of prince Andrey Bogolyubsky. If the weather conditions permit we will also walk across a reserved meadow to the elegant Church of the Intercession on the Nerl. This masterpiece of white stone architecture is the true symbol of Russia. Return to Moscow.
